Robert Luther III * +++ Many law reviews are only open to the top 10% of the class or to students who excel in a writing competition.

While a high percentage of law schools now have at least one journal in addition to the law review, the reality is that well over half of the students enrolled in law school today do not have the opportunity to serve as a law review or journal staff member.

At many schools, writing is at least half the job of being a law professor. Writing must be something for which you are prepared to devote a significant portion of your life. In developing a portfolio of legal scholarship, quality matters, not just quantity.

You should publish papers only after you have vetted them with peers and academic mentors. It is perhaps best known for publishing Plain English for Lawyers by Richard C. Wydick, now in its 5 th edition and widely touted as “probably the most popular legal text today” by the New York Times.

CAP is currently welcoming book proposals for titles in law or other academic areas. Check out the submission instructions here. This book is about the use of legal scholarship by judges. It discusses the possibility that legal scholarship may function as a genuine source of law in modern municipal legal systems.

This Feature examines the role of legal scholarship in judicial decision making.
